Nellore, Jan. 26: An amount of Rs 9.72 crore has been sanctioned to take up repairs for Nellore ‘Bellary’ Mumbai highway apart from Rs 90 lakh for emergency repairs. The road to an extent of 100 km was damaged because of the plying of thousands heavily loaded iron ore trucks everyday.
The district collector, Mr K. Ramgopal, has revealed this during his speech on the occasion of Republic Day after hoisting national flag at the Police Parade Grounds here on Tuesday.
He said that proposals to build road over bridges at Gudur, Kavali and Manu-bolu at an outlay of Rs 99 crore have been sent for approval.
The road from Venkatachalam to Mutth-ukur via Surveypalli would be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 10.5 crore.
Referring to Rs 2 a-kg-rice being supplied to 7 lakh beneficiaries in the district, he said that they are also supplying pulses and palm oil at subsidised price through 24 special counters. Steps are being taken to provide branded rice at Rs 26 per kilo and superfine quality rice at Rs 20 from Reliance and More outlets.
Mr Ramgopal has expressed confidence in generating more job opportunities for jobless youth of the district in the wake of 8 thermal power projects coming up in the vicinity of Krishnapatnam port.
The minister for municipal administration, Mr Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, the Nellore MP, Mr Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, the Kovur MLA, Mr Nallapareddy Prasannakumar Re-ddy, the Sullurpeta MLA, Mr Parasa Rathnam, the Nellore rural MLA, Mr Anam Vivekanadna Reddy, MLC, Mr B. Raghavendra Reddy and SP, Mr B. Malla Reddy participated.
